Creative Conversations
Creative Conversations is a project I started in May 2018, and was born from a love of taking people’s portraits and a fascination with their views on Creativity. For this chapter I sat down with seven people to discuss their thoughts on creativity.

On getting into filmmaking….I used to go on a lot of adventures, and still do, and one time my mate bought a little GoPro and we started making films. I was always really interested in watching little adventure documentary films, and it was around the time that I was also getting into political journalism, being a presenter and getting production experience…

Tell me your thoughts on creativity… I have a series of thoughts about creativity. I think it’s incredible and holds so much potential but also so much unrecognised power. I think it’s in danger of being overly owned by a certain collection of people, often subconsciously without any shape or meaning to, but it can feel like there are a lot of barriers to being creative which shouldn’t exist…

On musical inspirations… For me good music is something that inspires you. Music has a distinctive power to stir up emotions and memories that will forever be tied to something as ineffaceable as a melody or phrase. When I listen to music the stuff that really strikes a chord with me is the stuff that sounds attainable…
Briana.
On creativity and creative thinking… I believe that creativity is just the action of creating, and I think being creative is problem solving; creating something out of nothing, coming up with an idea. It can be looking at anything from aesthetic colours to flavours. I love cooking, I’ve always loved cooking and recipes and I find that creative…
Andreia.
On Edinburgh… There is so much I like about Edinburgh; the people are always nice, polite and non-judgemental and there is a lot more diversity than where I come from. The food and coffee shop scene is amazing, there are so many cool and delicious places to visit. My favourite season is Autumn…

The best parts of being a photographer… Photography for me is about translating feelings into a picture. There’s so much I love about being able to express myself more freely through photography. It’s like speaking a different language that connects with ourselves and others, breaking down barriers that are sometimes created through words…
Lucy.
On creative influences… I love narrative and the power of narrative. I’ve always written short stories, short scripts and poems. I think that actually I sort of accidentally fell into film; but it is where I was always supposed to be…
